Glasstress 2013 White Light / White Heat will have two spectacular venues, the historic Palazzo Cavalli Franchetti, home of the prestigious Istituto Veneto di Scienze Lettere ed Arti on the Grand Canal in Venice and the Berengo Centre for Contemporary Art and Glass, housed in a glass furnace from the 1800s on the island of Murano where glass art was born.
The event will include over fifty internationally known artists, designers and fashion designers selected and curated by James Putnam, an independent art critic and curator who works from London. Glasstress 2013 White Light / White Heat is organized in collaboration with the London College of Fashion. The artists include Tracey Emin, Miroslaw Balka, Mona Hatoum, Lucy Orta, Joanne Vasconcelos, Pedro Cabrita Reis, Eli Saab, Cornelia Parker, Loris Cecchini, and Cai Guo Quiang and other acclaimed artists whose work reflects the beauty and challenge of working with glass and who have produced works of extraordinary beauty and expressive force. In 2012, Berengo Studio and Venice Projects had the privilege of presenting the Swedish glass artist Bertil Vallien in 9 Rooms, a collateral event in the 13th Venice Biennale of Architecture.
In 2011-2012, Glasstress was also shown in the Latvian National Museum of Art in Riga, the Millesgarden Museum in Stockholm, the MAD-Museum of Art and Design in New York, and the Beirut Exhibition Center. In 2013, Berengo Studio and Venice Projects will collaborate with and present Glasstress in the Wallace Collection in London and the Multimedia Art Museum in Moscow.
In 2013, Berengo Studio and Venice Projects will also participate in FRAGILE. Murano, chefs-d’œuvre de verre de la Renaissance au XXI siècle at Musée Maillol in Paris, an exciting historic exhibition which explores glass from the 15th century to the present.
We hope you will join us.
